A weight loss program involves lots of difficult things to do. Reducing fried foods, cutting out drinks, eating regularly and taking up physical exercise daily, things which we start to find very difficult after a couple of days into the plan. So the question is, how to stay motivated throughout the plan without deviating from its course and loosing weight as you dreamt?
A large number of people fail with their weight reduction plans because they set very ambitious targets for themselves. When people start with diet and exercise programs they intend to loose the weight almost overnight. The combined effect of over targets and over ambition is exhaustion and frustration that kills off the motivation. Such feelings are also caused by the desire to look like magazine and television models.
We need to identify our real self to get success and motivation in life. Loving ourselves, our physique and understand our constitution and limitations would help us to get us the motivation to get along with our decisions and goals.
Identifying and setting goals helps to visualize the targets and evolve realistic plans to meet them. A goal presents itself as a challenge to your individual self. It becomes a parameter that inspires you to devout your energy and time towards its attainment. When you are able to achieve your set goals, it fills you with inner satisfaction and gives you confidence to take on the next targets. Thus it motivates you to move towards your target through small successful steps rather than one big leap which may lead to a fall.
Writing down the goals has two advantages
On some days you may not be able to meet your targets. Do not let this affect your motivation or performance. Try to find out the reason why you could not meet the target and then work upon it the next time.
When you are able to meet the targets, don't get overjoyed. Make a realistic assessment of steps you took that helped you to get the goals.
One of the good ways to get motivation is to meet people who have reduced weight recently. Ask them how are they feeling, and what's their new confidence level after weight loss. The satisfaction of other people would act as a motivational factor for you.
It is most important that you should not give up in your heart. Even if there is some problem, or you are unable to continue with your plan for a day or two, don't think everything is lost. Come back next day with increased vigor and drive in your energy towards your goals.
